‎Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has not prescribed any uniform or fixed consultation fee for private medical practitioners and specialists in the Union Territory, the Legislative Assembly was informed.

‎The Health and Medical Education Department said the issue of consultation and follow-up charges in private clinical establishments could be examined within the existing legal and regulatory framework.

‎The government gave the information in reply to a question by MLA Peerzada Feroze Ahmad regarding consultation fees and charges in private healthcare facilities.

‎It said that, wherever considered appropriate, suitable guidelines or measures could be considered to ensure transparency in the display and communication of consultation charges.
‎
‎At present, however, there is no uniform consultation or follow-up fee structure prescribed by the government for private medical practitioners and specialists in J&K, the reply said.
‎
‎The government’s response came amid a question on whether private doctors and specialists were charging high consultation fees and separate charges for follow-up consultations within short periods.
‎
‎The department did not prescribe any specific fee ceiling in its reply.(KNS)
