Srinagar, 06 Oct (KNS): 40 bedded state-of-the-art “Advanced Centre for Mental Health & Addiction Medicine” was dedicated to the public at SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Srinagar by Prof (Dr) M Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt of Jammu & Kashmir, in presence of Prof. Shariq Rashid Masooodi, Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Dr Shafa A Deva, Medical Superintendent & Dr Abdul Majid, Prof & HOD Psychiatry SKIMS. Other prominent professionals present on the occasion were Heads of Departments from other specialities of SKIMS Medical College, Prof Mohammad Maqbool, HOD psychiatry GMC Srinagar, Dr Showkat A Mir, senior Psychiatrist, another faculty member from SKIMS Medical College, Deputy Director (AO) SKIMS Medical College, Officers from Engineering Department and Nursing administration.
The advanced centre will offer multiple services on modernized lines like Ultra Brief Modified ECT, r TMS, Addiction Treatment Facility, t DCS, Special outreach Clinics, Ketamine Therapy, Psychotherapies, EEG, Counselling, Multi-Behaviour Therapy, Special Clinics, Biofeedback, Consultation Liaison in addition to routine Outpatient and Inpatient services.
The Director agreed to allocate two additional staff and enhance the nursing and security staff for the Center for its smooth functioning in the best interest of patient care.
Dr Abdul Majid, Prof & HOD said that keeping in view the increasing trend of patients seeking treatment for Mental Health Issues, the centre has come as a big relief.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also added that 4th to 10th October is observed as Mental Health Week and dedicated to Mental health awareness, the timing of the opening of the centre is appropriate as well.
During the visit, Director SKIMS interacted with faculty, Residents, and Paramedical staff for inputs and took first-hand information from patients and their attendants regarding the services available and any deficiency thereof.
Shortly, the centre will offer inpatient services to patients with addiction-related problems. It is pertinent the mention that the Department of Psychiatry SKIMS Medical College has been offering services at SKIMS Soura in the form of OPD services and consultation liaison, Mental Health services to special populations in Prison, Voluntary Medicare Society and other registered organizations.
It was decided to start a unit of Mental Health at SKIMS Soura in the interest of the patient population for which recruitment of manpower and space requirements is underway.
In the end, the Director appreciated the efforts made by faculty and staff of the Psychiatry dept, especially Dr Abdul Majid, HOD psychiatry and Dr Nizam ud Din, assistant professor of psychiatry for their dedication & Er Aruj Allaqaband, Ex Er R&B, Er Showkat Simnani, AEE, Er Nazir Ahmad, Er.
