Srinagar, Dec 27:(KNS)The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed strong resentment against the continued house arrest of its head, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq by the state administration for the fourth consecutive Friday.
Terming it "highly unfortunate", the Auqaf has condemned this act of restricting Mirwaiz’s religious and official duties. It said such arbitrary action is being enforced solely through the use of power.
In a statement, the Anjuman said that on a day when a large number of devotees, despite the harsh winter conditions, had gathered at the historic central Jama Masjid from various parts of the valley to listen to the Mirwaiz's sermon, the administration’s move not only hurt their sentiments but was also highly regrettable.

By frequently placing Mirwaiz under house arrest, particularly on Fridays, the authorities are not only preventing him from performing his religious and official responsibilities but are also causing immense distress to the Muslim community of the region.
According to the Anjuman, early tmorning, police vehicles were stationed outside the Mirwaiz's residence, and he was informed that he would not be allowed to attend Friday prayers or deliver his sermon at the central Jama Masjid.(KNS)
