Insiders allege selective enforcement, risk to patient safety

Bandipora, Aug 31 (KNS) : At District Hospital Bandipora, the ban on voluntary workers exists only on paper. Three weeks after the administration ordered their removal, several continue to operate in sensitive wings of the hospital, from laboratories, Registration section, C T, X Ray, to operating theatres, shielded, insiders allege, by “proximity to officials.”
On August 8, the Medical Superintendent issued Order No. DHB/25-26/621-24, declaring all voluntary services illegal. The directive warned section in-charges of disciplinary action if they engaged such workers, making them personally liable for any mishap. But enforcement has been selective: many were pushed out, while a few “blue-eyed” volunteers have been allowed to stay on.
Staffers said these workers not only remain inside critical areas but are discreetly hidden in night rooms during inspection visits by senior officials. “The system bends for a chosen few.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelRules apply only to those without access,” one hospital employee said.
The continuation of untrained volunteers, insiders warned, has placed patients at risk. “They are handling medicines, instruments and even assisting in theatres without authorisation or training. This is not favouritism anymore, this is endangering lives,” a senior staff member said.
Those who were forced out have reacted with anger, accusing the administration of double standards. “Either allow all or no one,” said one of the volunteers.
The larger question, employees say, is not just about volunteers but about accountability. “When an illegal arrangement survives despite a formal ban, it means the ban itself was never meant to be enforced,” another staff member said.
When contacted, the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora said, “I will look into the matter.”(KNS)
