Sopore, Oct 2 (KNS) : The BJP's OBC Morcha on Friday organised a blood donation camp at Sopore hospital in north Kashmir, with volunteers donating around 20 units and the party using the occasion to push organ donation awareness in a region where the donation rate remains very low.
The camp was held as part of the party's 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' and 'Mera Yogdhan' outreach.
Fayaz Ahmed, in-charge of the BJP OBC Morcha, told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the party's volunteers are driven by a philosophy of service and remain ever ready to help those in need.
Our team has decided to donate around 20 units for the community and those who are in need. BJP's volunteers understand the party and its philosophy very well. They are always ready to help, he said.
He said such camps are being held across the country, adding that this was the second biggest camp in Baramulla district.
We do all the work to defend society and humanity — cleaning, taking care of children, raising issues concerning women. We do a lot of social work in this camp, he said.
Fayaz said he was happy to announce that the Morcha was also organising an awareness camp for organ donation, noting that kidney diseases have increased in Jammu and Kashmir due to dietary habits.

Highlighting the low rate of organ donation in the Kashmir region, he said the BJP has started the initiative in Sopore.
In the Kashmir region, there is a large Muslim population. We receive organ donation from non-Muslims. The rate of organ donation in the Kashmir region is very low. But in Sopore, BJP has started organ donation, he said.
He appealed to the public to come forward and join the cause, stressing that the human body ultimately has to return to God and that useful organs can save lives without any consideration of religion or caste.
We have started organ donation after the death of a human. We request the public to join us. First of all, they should understand that everything has to be destroyed, everything has to be returned to God. If a human organ is useful to us, without religion or caste, and if it can be used for a long time, then the Quran has given us such instructions from time to time. We just need to implement them, Fayaz said.
I request all my people in J&K to volunteer. There is a state department for organ donation. You can meet our doctor. You can volunteer for organ donation. These things will be useful to you, he added. (KNS).
