Black Bear Sighted in Bandipora’s Gamroo Village; Wildlife Teams Mobilized

Bandipora, Jan 29 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department confirmed the presence of a black bear in the Gamroo village of Bandipora after reports of sightings surfaced on social media. 

The block wildlife officer Bandipora Tanveer Ahmad Lone said that evidence of the animal's presence had been collected.

He urged residents to exercise caution, advising, "Children should not go out, especially during early morning and evening hours. During Fajar and Esha prayers, people should move in groups with sufficient lighting."

“Our department vehicles are patrolling and sensitizing the area to ensure public safety,” the official said.

The wildlife officer also said that initial evidence suggests the presence of a black bear in the vicinity.

Notably, Residents of Gamroo are gripped with fear, restricting outdoor activities for themselves and their children. Several shopkeepers have also closed their businesses early, fearing potential bear attacks. (KNS)
