KARGIL DECEMBER 18(KNS): The Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil has raised strong reservation on  the UT Ladakh administration’s decision to open hostels during the winter season, citing inadequate facilities and security concerns. The absence of proper heating systems, lack of CCTV surveillance, and inadequate security arrangements, especially in hostels housing female students, have raised alarms among parents and the wider community. We demand that the administration either halt this flawed policy or ensure essential facilities like heating, security arrangements, and CCTV surveillance are provided without delay.

The Jamiat also highlighted the administration’s flawed approach to education, where support is provided only to Class 10 and 12 students, while students from lower grades are neglected. They argued that education should be inclusive for all students, not just those appearing for board exams. The move to convert government schools into hostels has further raised suspicion, with allegations of mismanagement and possible misuse of public funds.

With unemployment on the rise in Ladakh, this decision has deprived many teachers of a livelihood and left students in remote areas with no access to tutors. In several parts of Ladakh, students depend solely on government teachers for academic support, as there are no private tutors available. The Jamiat has called for an immediate lifting of the ban, emphasizing that the administration must offer alternative solutions if private tutors are unavailable. Moreover, the education department must focus and encourage on quality education . 

We also that the UT administration, LAHDC, and district authorities to address these issues without delay, warning of continued protests if the demands are not met.(KNS)
