Srinagar, Sep 28 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Monday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the road safety scenario in the district and measures being taken to prevent road accidents.

The meeting, held at the DC Office Complex, discussed improvement of road and safety infrastructure, identification and rectification of accident-prone black spots, pedestrian safety, emergency medical response, post-crash care and timely settlement of compensation claims.

Labroo stressed the need for greater awareness among road accident victims and their families about the PM Rahat (Road Accident Victim Hospitalization and Assured Treatment) Scheme.

Under the scheme, eligible road accident victims are entitled to cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for seven days from the date of the accident.

The DC directed the concerned Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) to ensure that information about the scheme reaches eligible beneficiaries in a timely manner.

He also called for effective coordination among departments concerned to strengthen road safety measures and ensure timely corrective interventions to reduce accidents and fatalities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Labroo directed the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department to prepare a comprehensive Road Safety Plan under the District Road Safety Fund, incorporating measures for identified black spots, pedestrian safety and other required interventions.

The DC also stressed effective implementation of the Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD), directing concerned agencies to ensure timely and accurate reporting of accidents through the system.

He said reliable accident data was essential for identifying accident-prone locations and planning evidence-based corrective measures.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, IAS Probationer Sai Kiran, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, senior officers of R&B, Joint Commissioner Hamid Iqbal Mir, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi Ud Din, District Health Officer Dr Rubeena, ARTO Showkat Ahmad and other officers of concerned departments.
