Olympic icons Abhinav Bindra and Karnam Malleshwari to Participate
Jammu Jan 15 (KNS): The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, will host the first J&K Sports Conference on January 17 and 18 at the Convention Centre, Jammu. The conference is being held under the theme SRIJAN. It aims to shape the future of sports in the Union Territory in line with the National Sports Policy 2025.
The event reflects the recent progress of sports in J&K. The region has seen better infrastructure, higher participation at the grassroots level, and stronger systems for identifying talent. The conference seeks to take this progress to the national level and position J&K as an emerging sports destination.
The two day conference will bring together policymakers, representatives from States and UTs, institutions, and sports professionals. Discussions will focus on sports governance, increasing mass participation, and building sustainable systems. Key sessions will focus on practical steps to implement the National Sports Policy 2025 and use sports for youth development, social unity, and nation building.
The conference is part of the annual activity calendar approved by the Chief Secretary, J&K.

Multiple committees are working to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
The conference will feature Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, and Karnam Malleshwari, India’s first woman Olympic medalist. Several accomplished local sportspersons from J&K will also attend.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Youth Services and Sports said the conference will help create a clear and practical roadmap for sports development in J&K. The aim is to ensure that young talent is identified, trained, and supported to achieve higher levels of performance.
The J&K Sports Conference 2026 aims to strengthen sports as a career option and a source of pride for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
