Driving Progress: A Talk with Sopore's Additional District Commissioner

Sopore, Aug 27(KNS): In a thought-provoking conversation with journalist Mufferah Majeeed Khuroo, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Raina, the additional district commissioner of Sopore, shared that he took up the role in April 2023. Prior to this, he held the position of ADC in Tral. Discussing his educational background, he mentioned his journey from an engineering student to obtaining an MBA, followed by an LLB, and ultimately achieving a master's degree in public administration.

Mufferah: Mr. Raina, could you share your main priorities as the ADC of Sopore?

Mr. Shabir Raina: My main priorities in Sopore revolve around healthcare and education, both vital for community development. I make a point to personally visit educational and healthcare institutions weekly to assess their functioning. Night inspections of healthcare centers are even implemented for smooth operation. While we may not have achieved the pinnacle of success yet, I can confidently say we're moving in the right direction. Positive changes are indeed unfolding in Sopore.

Mufferah: What kinds of challenges have you encountered in your role as ADC?

Mr. Shabir Raina: Well, Mufferah, in every posting, you encounter a mix of active and less active team members, a natural aspect of service dynamics. However, with true dedication to goals, no challenge can deter you from reaching milestones. It's about maintaining focus and steadfast commitment to the mission.

Mufferah: Have you undertaken projects to improve the lives of Sopore's residents?

Mr Shabir Raina: Upon arrival, I noticed some areas received as little as one hour of water supply within 24 hours, and residents in some places got water only every 48 hours. We aimed to address these water supply disparities and secured approval for a project worth Rs. 56 lakh. The goal is to ensure each household receives over 55 liters of water per person daily. Better days are on the horizon for Sopore's residents. We're also actively implementing a proper drainage system to address flooding and sanitation issues. Additionally, we're working to instill discipline in the town's infrastructure and daily routines, aiming to create a more livable and organized environment for everyone.

Mufferah: With your emphasis on healthcare and education, what measures have you taken to ensure their effective functioning?

Mr Shabir Raina: Mufferah, I've personally visited nearly every Sub-District Hospital (SDH) to assess conditions and needs.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelUtilizing resources to their fullest potential is crucial. We've worked to ensure necessary facilities are readily available, not only for patients but also for their attendants and dedicated paramedical staff.

Mufferah: Environmental concerns are crucial. How are you addressing those issues?

Mr. Shabir Raina: Absolutely, Mufferah. One of our primary environmental challenges is proper garbage disposal. To address this, we've engaged in discussions with municipal council officials. We're actively working towards establishing designated collection points throughout the town, ensuring waste is managed and disposed of responsibly. It's a step forward in making Sopore cleaner and more sustainable.

Mufferah: Your initiatives are inspiring. What's your vision for Sopore's future?

Mr. Shabir Raina: Thank you, Mufferah. When I envision Sopore's future, I see a town transformed through collective responsibility. Setting aside personal ego and financial differences to unite with a shared purpose can bring about positive change. With the community's unwavering support, we can shape a Sopore that stands as a testament to unity, progress, and a brighter tomorrow for all residents.

Mufferah: How do you gather feedback from residents?

Mr. Shabir Raina: Gathering feedback is essential. We've established multiple channels for this purpose. We have a complaint and suggestion box where people can share their input. Additionally, we offer online complaint registration for those who prefer digital means. And, of course, we remain reachable through contact numbers for direct communication. It's crucial for us to remain accessible to the community to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed effectively.

Mufferah: What message or words of wisdom would you like to share?

Mr. Shabir Raina: I urge youth to distance themselves from the allure of drugs. We must collectively work to thwart efforts to harm younger generations. To parents, I encourage closely monitoring your children's studies to ensure education remains unaffected. As a community, let's prioritize cleanliness for a healthier, vibrant environment. Let's build a future free from negative influences, marked by education, health, and unity.(KNS).
