Srinagar, Apr 01 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir's Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam has announced that the amount for Sadaqat-ul-Fitr has been fixed at Rs 65 per person.
Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is a duty required of every Muslim and must be paid before the beginning of Eid prayer and can be given from the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan.
The Grand Mufti has emphasized that it is preferable to give Sadaqat-ul-Fitr to the downtrodden, poor, destitute, orphans, and homeless rather than to Mosques, Shrines, Khanqahas, or any religious organization.
"It can be given to the poor and needy, but not for the construction purposes of Masjids and any other structures," he said, adding that those who are wealthier and wish to pay more than Rs 65 per person are free to do so.
Grand Mufti quoted Hadith to explain that every Muslim is required to pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitt at the conclusion of the month of Ramazan as a token of thankfulness to Allah for having enabled them to observe the obligatory fast. (KNS)
