Srinagar, January 3 (KNS): Tense moments unfolded at Amandeep BR Medcity Hospital in Srinagar after several patients scheduled for knee surgery were sedated and left unattended for hours. The delay occurred because the doctor expected to perform the procedures, Dr. Avtaar from Amritsar, could not arrive on time due to a flight delay.
An attendant, while speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), alleged that around 10 patients were admitted for knee surgery. Despite the absence of the doctor, the hospital staff went ahead and administered anesthesia. However, Dr. Avtaar failed to arrive, leaving the patients sedated and unattended.
The attendant further claimed that while two patients were operated on, the rest remained sedated. "We began protesting because, in the absence of Dr. Avtaar, we don’t know who performed the surgeries on these patients. We demand clarity. We paid for Dr. Avtaar to operate on our relatives, but the hospital authorities have left us in the dark," he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He also questioned the hospital's decision-making, stating, "The patients have been left in a vulnerable state. We need answers about who performed the surgeries and what will happen to the remaining sedated patients."
When contacted, Dr. Muzaffar from the hospital administration admitted that the delay was caused by the doctor’s late flight. "Due to the unforeseen delay, we had to proceed after administering anesthesia. However, Dr. Avtaar's team operated on one patient, and the procedure was successful," he said.
Dr. Muzaffar added, "This was an unfortunate and unforeseen situation. While waiting longer after administering anesthesia was not an option, we have other experienced doctors capable of conducting such surgeries."(KNS)
