IGP Traffic Chairs High-Level Review of Snowfall Impact and Republic Day Preparations

 Jammu, January 23 (KNS) ; Mohd. Suleman Choudhary, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Traffic) for Jammu & Kashmir, convened a strategic meeting today to assess traffic management in the wake of recent heavy snowfall and to finalize security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

 
The high-level review, attended by senior traffic police officials from across the Union Territory, focused on the challenges posed by inclement weather in the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu division areas of Banihal and Ramban.
 
In attendance were Dr. Mohd Haseeb Mughal, IPS, DIG Traffic Range Jammu; Ajaz Ahmed Bhat, IPS, SSP Traffic City Srinagar; Ravinder Paul Singh, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir; Shri Amit Bhasin, JKPS, SSP Traffic City Jammu; Shri Raja Adil Hamid, JKPS, SSP Traffic NHW Ramban; Shri Farooq Qaiser, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu; Arvinder Singh Kotwal, JKPS, SP Traffic City Jammu; Dr. Sunniya Wani, JKPS, Dy.SP Traffic City South Jammu; and Ashwani Kumar, Dy.SP Traffic City North Jammu. Officers stationed outside Jammu participated via video conference.
 
IGP Choudhary conducted a comprehensive evaluation of traffic regulation on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other snow-affected routes. He emphasized ensuring smooth traffic flow, issuing timely public advisories, and maintaining close coordination with district administrations, police, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
Key directives for managing current weather disruptions including The SSP Traffic City Srinagar was instructed to issue immediate public announcements, advising that Jammu-bound vehicles will be halted until road conditions improve.
 
The SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir was directed to restrict Jammu-bound traffic from Qazigund.
 
The SSP Traffic NHW Ramban was ordered to establish multiple traffic cut-off points at strategic locations to prevent congestion and ensure commuter safety.
 
IGP Choudhary mandated that breakdown assistance teams be placed on high alert at identified vulnerable points, particularly along the National Highway, for swift clearance of stranded vehicles. He further stressed the need for adequate manpower, coordination with snow-clearance agencies, and the deployment of essential equipment like reflective barricades and signage.
 
Regarding Republic Day arrangements, the meeting finalized plans to ensure seamless vehicular movement, implement necessary diversions, deploy sufficient personnel, and strictly enforce traffic protocols at all event venues and parade routes.
 
The IGP underscored the necessity of proactive planning, real-time monitoring, and effective public communication to guarantee safety, convenience, and orderly traffic management during both the ongoing harsh weather and the national festivities. (KNS)
