Kulgam Feb 5 (KNS): PDP leader Iltija Mufti stated, “The government must step up and offer more than just words. They need to provide compensation, but more importantly, a thorough investigation into this heinous act. We cannot allow a situation where a family is left to fend for itself after such a tragedy.”
Expressing her concerns about the Kulgam attack, Mufti spoke out against the growing insecurity in the valley. “She highlighted the arbitrary arrests of local youth, especially in districts like Kulgam, Budgam, and Ganderbal, where many young men are being detained by authorities under suspicion. According to local sources, about 500 young men have been arrested, and residents are living in fear for their safety.
“What’s happening here is not justice. Instead of a fair investigation, people are being treated as suspects without reason. Innocent youth are being rounded up simply because they are from these areas. This cannot continue,” Mufti remarked. She also voiced concern about the government’s failure to address the fears of local people, particularly in the tense political climate.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mufti specifically criticized the National Conference (NC) for not taking a stand on the issue, despite holding significant political power in the region. She called on NC leadership to engage with the local communities and work toward addressing the widespread fear and uncertainty that has gripped the youth.
“Why isn’t the NC speaking out? The youth voted for them, but now they are being punished for something they didn’t do. It’s time for real action, not just empty words,” she added.
Before leaving the area, Mufti made a final visit to the family, offering her condolences again and pledging her support in the ongoing fight for justice. As the investigation into the killing continues, the family and local residents remain on edge, fearful that they may be targeted next. The call for justice and a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding Manzoor Wage’s death remains urgent as his family struggles to make sense of the tragedy. (KNS)
