Srinagar Dec 10 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that JKNC will continue to spearhead the peaceful struggle for restoration of constitutional rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He made these comments while addressing a workers convention in Rafiabad, Baramulla. Even before the Supreme Court decision on Article 370, party Vice President Omar Abdullah has expressed anger against the harassment and intimidation of National Conference leaders and office bearers.
“The Supreme Court has not passed a verdict yet. How do you know what the verdict is? Maybe it is in our favour. Then what is the need to call my party colleagues to police stations? They have been called to police stations since Saturday night and threatened. They are being told that they should not write this or that on social media. Are these threats only for the NC? Tell me whether you have called a BJP leader. What is wrong with it? Don't we have a right to say this in a democracy? Can't we raise objections in a democracy? If others can talk, why not us?” asked Omar while lamenting the summoning of his party colleagues to police stations.
The convention was organized by the party's North Zone President and In-charge Constituency Javed Ahmed Dar. Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, State Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Ramzan, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, Senior leader Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi, DP Baramulla Dr Sajjad Shafi, Provincial Secretary Showkat Mir, constituency incharges Khawaja Muhammad Yaqub Wani, Adv Hilal Lone, Shafqat Vitali, Advocate Nazir Malik, Ghulam Hassan Rahi, Farooq Ahmed Shah, Riaz Bidar, Irshad Rasool Kar, party leaders Adv Shahid Ali, Adv Nilofar Masood, Musrat Kar, Nasir Lone and other officials were also present.
Omar Abdullah in his address said, “The Supreme Court will give a decision tomorrow, but is it necessary to shut us down?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIs it necessary to cancel our program? Have we ever damaged the environment? Have we ever told the youth to pick up and throw stones? Have we ever told youth here to pick up a gun and fight? Our President Dr. Farooq Abdullah gave a speech at Hazratbal at that time and said, "Youth, if you don't like Farooq Abdullah, I will leave, but don't pick up this gun. Since then, 35 years have passed and his words have been proven right time and again. The gun has given nothing but destruction and destruction.”
The NC Vice President said that we went to the Supreme Court and except for a few other parties, all others reached SC and all tried together. “Let's assume for two minutes that if the Supreme Court's decision is not in our favor, it does not mean that we will give up our fight. It took 70 years for BJP to reach August 05, 2019. Before that, the Supreme Court gave two judgments which were in favor of Article 370, did the BJP people leave their position, did they back down? Rather, they continued their political fight. It means that we will not lose heart, we will not be disappointed. We will peacefully, democratically, legally get our rights back. We will continue to fight for what was taken away from us. It is possible that we will take time in this fight, sometimes it is better to be patient, but being the largest party, it is our duty to put forward our point thoughtfully, we do not have to play with people's feelings. We don't want to provoke people, we don't want to spoil the environment, we don't want to give an excuse to the government to start rounding up the youth here, we have to use our words wisely.”
Omar Abdullah said that this is not a fight of one day, one week and one month, it will not be resolved overnight, but God willing, if our intentions are clear and our intentions are right, then Allah will show us the way by Himself. Those whose intentions are firm, whose eyes are on God. They are not afraid of turbulent waves. Our intentions are firm and our eyes are on Allah, apart from these two things we don't need anything else.”(KNS)
