J&K High Court Conducts Twin-City Mediation Training for Judicial Officers

Srinagar/Jammu, Nov 30 (KNS): The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, through its Mediation and Conciliation Committee, in collaboration with the J&K Legal Services Authority and J&K Judicial Academy, conducted one-day interactive roleplay mediation training programmes for judicial officers on Sunday.

The programmes were held simultaneously at the Jammu and Srinagar wings of the J&K Judicial Academy as part of the ongoing 40-hour mediation training for judicial officers. The initiative is part of the High Court’s efforts to expand the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) framework across the Union Territories.

In Jammu, the programme was conducted under the supervision of Naseer Ahmad Dar, Director of J&K Judicial Academy. The day included three roleplay-based mediation sessions led by trainer Balbir Kour Gandhi. Session I focused on mediation communication techniques and neutral facilitation. Session II dealt with understanding interests, managing emotions, and handling deadlocks. Session III addressed multi-party disputes, impasse-breaking methods, and structured settlement facilitation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelParticipants included Chief Judicial Magistrates, Sub Judges, Munsiffs, and Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities from Jammu Division.

In Srinagar, the programme was conducted under the supervision of Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority. Trainer Puneeta Sethi led three sessions covering mediation fundamentals, communication and negotiation techniques, and full-process roleplay exercises. Officers from Kashmir Province and the UT of Ladakh attended.

The programmes concluded with formal acknowledgments to the Chief Justice, the governing committees, resource persons, and participating officers. Participants noted that the structured roleplay sessions provided practical guidance on integrating mediation into judicial work.

The simultaneous training sessions at Jammu and Srinagar reflect the High Court’s ongoing efforts to strengthen mediation awareness and ADR capacity across both Union Territories.
