JKPC Youth President Urges Reopening of Madin Sahib Shrine

Restoring a Symbol of Kashmir's Spiritual and Cultural Heritage

Restoring a Symbol of Kashmir's Spiritual and Cultural Heritage

Srinagar, March 1 (KNS): JKPC Youth President Mudasir has made a heartfelt appeal to reopen the historic Madin Sahib Shrine in Srinagar, which has been closed since 2002. He emphasized that with Ramadan approaching, it's essential to restore access to this revered shrine, a symbol of Kashmir's spiritual and cultural heritage.

Mudasir added that the shrine, built in 1448 by Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen, has been a shared place of worship for Sunni and Shia Muslims for centuries. He stressed that despite past challenges, history should not dictate the future, and it's time to move forward with reconciliation and progress.

The shrine's closure has put it at risk of irreversible damage, and Mudasir urged the Archaeological Department to undertake its restoration while preserving its historic appearance. He believes reopening the shrine would not only revive a place of worship but also contribute to heritage preservation and cultural tourism, benefiting the local community.

Mudasir questioned why Madin Sahib should be an exception when other historic shrines have been restored. He emphasized that this shrine embodies the rich spiritual and cultural legacy of Kashmir, and restoring it would honor their shared heritage and foster unity and religious harmony.

He has formally reached out to the relevant authorities, urging them to take necessary action and initiate steps toward reopening the shrine. Will the authorities heed his call and reopen this sacred space for future generations?
