Srinagar, May 30,(KNS): In a august ceremony held at the Hotel Kashmir Mahal Resorts, Nishat, the Kashmir Welfare Trust (KWT), in collaboration with Kashmir Concern and other allied NGOs, honoured two courageous individuals, Showkat Ahmad Sofi and Zahoor Ahmad Khanday, for their recent act of bravery in saving a seven-year-old boy from drowning in the River Jhelum.
The event saw the participation of many dignitaries, former bureaucrats, heads of NGOs, civil society members, and volunteers. Dr. Tauseef Ahmad of Kashmir Concern hosted the event, highlighting the importance of recognising such heroic deeds in our community. Showkat Ahmad Sofi and Zahoor Ahmad Khanday were awarded certificates of appreciation and consolation prizes for their selfless act.
Mr. Jehangir Bakshi, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), served as the chief guest, while the former Chief Secretary, Mr. Shafi Pandit, graced the occasion as the special guest. Both dignitaries, along with other guests, praised the two heroes for their bravery and selflessness.

Mr. Shafi Pandit, IAS (Retd.), also expressed his admiration for the two young men and stressed the significance of recognising everyday heroes. Chief guest Jehangir Bakshi not only appreciated the efforts of Showkat and Zahoor but also took the opportunity to discuss the vital role of the DLSA in providing legal services to those who cannot afford them, highlighting the authority's commitment to justice and support for the underprivileged.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Chairmen of Kashmir Welfare Trust and Kashmir Concern, who expressed their gratitude to all the guests for their participation and extended a special thank you to the two brave men for their presence and their exemplary act of bravery.(KNS)
