KVIC Sponsored Anti drug abuse awareness program held

Srinagar, Jul 05 (KNS): Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) today sponsored Anti Drug Abuse Awareness Programme in Tagore Hall Srinagar. Programme was organised by Kashmir Adventurist. During the programme besides large number of people hundreds of College and Higher Secondary Students participated.
The main theme of the programme was to seek the involvement of general public and government departments to fight the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.HinaShafiBhat, Member (NZ) KVIC who was chief guest said that the mere slogan of “say no to drugs” will not yield any result. We have a collective responsibility to find the cause, as well as remedial measures, for the safety and security of our youth.
We lost one generation to the gun and we are going to lose the next generation to drugs.”This is a great hint to understand the cause of drug addiction in Kashmir
She said It is unfortunate that drug addiction in the valley has received little attention from the general public as well as from NGOs, who are just superficially dealing with the problem. It is a big social problem and needs concrete steps and strategies.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The government, mass media and other social organisations must work with great coordination, and in a close-knit manner, to nip the evil in the bud.
In the meantime, Anil Kumar Sharma Assistant Director, Incharge Kashmir Region gave a detailed Power Point presentation on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). He said under PMEGP people especially youth can start their entrepreneurship and can be saved from the ill effects of Drugs.
Speakers present on the occasion suggested that the teachers should have a discussion among their students and discourage them from acquiring those habits which are harmful to their life and also to spread the message through social media.
It was said that drug abuse is one of the biggest social problems threatening our society, having seriously damaging effects on individuals, families and the community at large. The programme ended with a resolution to make the entire State a drug-addiction free region.
