Jammu, Dec 4 (KNS): Faced with financial distress, 32-year-old Jyoti Singh of Satwari in Jammu has taken up driving an e-rickshaw to support her family, becoming one of the few women in her locality to do so.
Singh, mother of two daughters, is the sole earning member of the family as her husband, Dheeraj Singh, is undergoing treatment for a liver ailment. The household survives on her daily income.
She told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that she started driving an e-rickshaw around three months ago after mounting medical expenses and school fees made it difficult to manage the household budget. The vehicle is rented, and her daily earnings fluctuate, she said, but she manages to meet basic needs.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Residents in her neighbourhood were initially sceptical when she began driving. Their perception shifted as they saw her consistently plying the streets to support her family. Singh said the work has given her financial independence and a sense of confidence.
“You should work when you face pressure. You should not rely on relatives for help. You should create your own path,” she said.
Singh also appealed for public assistance for her husband’s medical treatment, which continues to put a strain on the family’s income. (KNS)
