Calls on J&K Chief Minister for Reduced Electricity Tariffs, Fair Verification Processes, and Public Welfare Measures
Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): In a formal letter addressed to the newly appointed Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi extended congratulations and called for immediate attention to critical social and administrative issues in the region. Emphasizing the need for “vision and integrity” in governance, Mehdi highlighted a range of priorities he believes would resonate with the public and enhance the state’s welfare.
Congratulating the Chief Minister, Mehdi stated, “This is a significant opportunity to lead with vision and integrity, and I wish you success in fulfilling the responsibilities that come with this esteemed position.” He stressed that a government’s actions must align with the aspirations of its citizens, encouraging the Chief Minister to honor “the people's mandate” in all decisions.
Among the top concerns Mehdi raised is the plight of prisoners held without trial, calling for their prompt release. “Your government should prioritize efforts to facilitate their release, ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law,” he wrote according to the letter lying with KNS.
Mehdi further argued that addressing this issue would demonstrate a commitment to fairness and due process.

He believes that rationalizing these policies can contribute to social equity without compromising standards of excellence.
Additionally, Mehdi highlighted the urgency of filling vacant government positions, which he believes would offer critical employment opportunities and reduce unemployment in the region. “The swift filling of government vacancies should be a priority, as it will provide thousands of deserving candidates with employment opportunities,” he noted.
Winter-related concerns, including high electricity tariffs, were also mentioned. With winter fast approaching, Mehdi appealed for reduced tariffs and a stable supply of electricity, which he said would ease the burden on residents during the colder months.
Finally, Mehdi addressed the state’s verification procedures, calling them “overly harsh” and often unjust. He urged the Chief Minister to review these procedures to ensure they are fair to all applicants.
