Srinagar Jun 7 (KNS): Narendra Modi is set to take the oath as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on Sunday evening. President Droupadi Murmu appointed Modi as the PM-designate after receiving confirmation of support from the BJP and its allies.
President Murmu's decision followed BJP chief J P Nadda's submission of Modi's election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. The BJP secured 240 seats in the recent Lok Sabha polls, and with the support of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the total rose to 293 seats, providing a clear majority in the 543-member House.
"The President, having satisfied herself based on the various letters of support received, that the BJP-led NDA alliance is in a position to command majority support of the newly-constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India, exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India," stated a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique.
The oath of office and secrecy will be administered to Modi and the Union Council of Ministers by President Murmu at 7:15 pm on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelModi met with President Murmu on Friday evening to receive his letter of appointment.
Addressing reporters, Modi confirmed his appointment as PM-designate and expressed his readiness for the oath ceremony on Sunday evening.
He noted that the Rashtrapati Bhavan would finalize the ceremony details and that he would submit the list of the Council of Ministers by then.
Modi emphasized the significance of the 18th Lok Sabha as a milestone towards India's centenary celebrations of independence in 2047. He highlighted the youthful energy and new mandate given to the NDA government.
The NDA delegation that met President Murmu included prominent leaders such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and others from the BJP, as well as leaders from allied parties like TDP, JD(U), Shiv Sena, JD(S), LJP(RV), HAM(S), Jana Sena, NCP, Apna Dal(S), RLD, UPPL, AGP, SKM, AJSU, and RPI(A).
Nadda officially conveyed Modi's election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, and the NDA leaders submitted their letters of support to the President, cementing Modi's position as the PM-designate.(KNS)
