Budgam, Aug 7(KNS): Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan, has made an urgent appeal for a special relief package to support the farmers of Kashmir who have been severely affected by the recent heat wave. In a series of meetings with various farmer delegations at his office, Khan was briefed on the extensive damage caused by the extreme weather conditions and the acute water shortage for irrigation.
During these discussions, farmers highlighted the substantial losses they have faced across multiple sectors. The heat wave has particularly impacted horticulture, with apple crops yielding smaller than usual fruit sizes. Vegetable growers are also experiencing significant challenges, with the heat and water scarcity severely affecting their produce.
Chairman DDC Budgam Nazir Ahmad Khan expressed deep concern over the plight of the farmers and emphasized the urgent need for immediate governmental intervention.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelRecognizing the financial burden on farmers, Khan demanded the waiver of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, stressing that this is crucial for immediate economic relief and recovery. Additionally, he emphasized the need for specific support measures for horticulture and vegetable growers, including technical assistance and subsidies to mitigate the impact on their produce.
Nazir Ahmad Khan stated, “The farmers of Kashmir are facing an unprecedented crisis due to the severe heat wave and lack of irrigation water. It is imperative that we act swiftly to provide them with the necessary support to sustain their livelihoods. I urge the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to consider our demands and implement a special relief package that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of our farmers.” (KNS)
