NIA charges Bihar migrant labourer for conspiring with LeT in J&K, Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, Oct 17 (KNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against a migrant labourer from Bihar for allegedly supporting proscribed terrorist organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.

The accused, identified as Akhalatur alias Mohammed Akhlaque Mujahid, a resident of Katihar district, Bihar, has been charged under Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 13(1)(b) and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The chargesheet was filed today before the NIA Special Court at Poonamallee, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Mujahid, employed as a labourer at a private construction site in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, was arrested in April by Kayar Police for his involvement in anti-national activities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe case was subsequently taken over by the NIA due to its gravity.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Mujahid maintained contact with LeT handlers in Pakistan through cyberspace and conspired with them to target non-believers in Tamil Nadu. Further inquiries revealed that he attempted to procure arms and weapons to carry out a jihadi-style attack aimed at destabilizing the country.

The NIA confirmed that the accused’s plans were foiled through coordinated action by the agency and other security forces.

Investigations in the case, registered as RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE (Akhalatur LeT and Salafi Ideologue case), are ongoing to prevent radicalisation and violent extremism in India.(KNS).
