Says Security Deficit in Jammu to Be Gradually Addressed

Jammu, Mar 29 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday highlighted the need for strengthening security in Jammu in light of recent militant attacks in the region. He stated that such incidents have been occurring for the past three to four years in various parts of Jammu, including an attack on a passenger bus in Reasi district and other incidents in Jammu city.

Speaking about the security challenges, Abdullah linked the issue to the deployment of the army in Ladakh following tensions with China. "When China attacked in Ladakh, we needed an army there. We could not remove the army from the valley, so the forces stationed in Jammu were sent to Ladakh. This led to a shortage, but now that shortage will be gradually addressed," he explained.

Addressing the concerns of the people in Kathua, he noted that the government had assured that militancy in Jammu would end in a few years. However, he refrained from commenting on the political aspects of the situation. "I will not talk about politics on this occasion," he said.

Referring to the recent attacks, he expressed deep sorrow for the victims. "We have just left a house where mourning has spread. I have visited four places today and extended my condolences to the families.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIt is clear that steps must be taken to improve the situation," he added.

Abdullah assured that those who lose their lives due to militancy or in service would be provided jobs under SRO 43. He confirmed that the widow of one of the victims, who is a graduate, would be given priority. "After Eid, when the office reopens, the Home Department will file the case. Relief will be provided to the families of the four people martyred in this incident," he stated.

Highlighting the need to combat militancy, he said, "We will try to prevent such incidents and control militancy to stop the cycle of mourning in Jammu and Kashmir."

On the ongoing investigation, Abdullah mentioned that while it was not possible to determine the exact identity of the attackers, it appeared they belonged to a new group. "I don’t have any intelligence reports, but it seems they were a new group.

He paid tribute to the four policemen who lost their lives, stating that their sacrifice helped save many innocent lives. "The investigation will be carried out by the agency to uncover further details," he concluded. (KNS)
