Baramulla, Dec 12 (KNS): The Post-Graduate Department of Computer Sciences at Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla inaugurated a one-week intensive training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in collaboration with the Anudip-IBM Skills Build Programme. The initiative, organized under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), aims to provide participants with advanced training in AI, bridging the gap between academic curricula and industry requirements.
The programme was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone, who lauded the efforts of the organizers for their visionary approach to skill development. He emphasized the transformative potential of AI in shaping future career opportunities and stressed the importance of such initiatives in enhancing employability among students.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GDC Baramulla and IBM Skills Build. This collaboration is expected to provide students with access to global resources, advanced tools, and specialized training platforms from IBM, marking a significant milestone in academic-industry partnerships. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Humaira Qadri, Dean of Research and MoUs, who appreciated the efforts of the IQAC in fostering such collaborations and lauded the college's commitment to advancing skill development initiatives.
During the inaugural session, several dignitaries delivered impactful remarks. Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Staff Secretary and Dean of Skill Development, stressed the importance of removing the phobia associated with Artificial Intelligence, encouraging students to embrace AI as a tool for innovation and growth. He also highlighted the significance of skill-oriented training in preparing students for the evolving demands of the workforce.
Dr. Nisar Iqbal Wani, Head of the Post-Graduate Department of Computer Sciences, outlined the objectives of the programme, emphasizing its focus on practical applications of AI and its relevance to modern technological advancements.

Following the inaugural session, two technical sessions were conducted. Dr. Muzaffar Rasool Bhat, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), delivered a comprehensive presentation on contemporary developments in AI, offering participants valuable insights into the latest trends and advancements in the field.
Dr. Bilal Maqbool Beigh, Assistant Professor in the Post-Graduate Department of Computer Sciences at GDC Baramulla, delivered a talk on the applications of AI, encouraging active engagement and practical understanding among participants.
The programme also included a healthy Q&A session, moderated by Prof. Nisar Ahmad Kangoo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences. The session provided an engaging platform for participants to clarify their doubts, seek expert insights, and discuss practical implications of AI.
The remaining sessions of the training programme will be conducted in the AI Lab of the Post-Graduate Department of Computer Sciences. The initiative, attended by faculty members of the computer science department including Dr? Khursheed, Ms. Suheela, Ms. Nairah, Suhail Rashid Shah (Partner Relationship Officer), Arbina Farhat (Senior Faculty, Soft Skills), and Mohammad Hashim Bhat (Senior Faculty, Domain), represents a significant step towards enhancing students' competencies in emerging technologies.
