Sopore, July 30 (KNS) : The Power Development Department (PDD) on Wednesday disconnected electricity supply to several households in the Tarzoo area of Sopore as part of its ongoing drive against consumers with long-pending electricity dues.

Local residents, while speaking to KNS, said they are not opposing the payment but are currently under financial stress and need some time.

"We are also human beings. Our children are preparing for exams, and this is the time of heatwaves. We can't survive without electricity. At least give us one month to clear the bills," a resident said.

They appealed to the department to consider their situation and provide a short extension so they can arrange the payments without further distress.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

A Senior official told News agency Kashmir News Service-KNS the disconnections are part of a routine enforcement drive. "Some households have not paid bills for over two years, and others have dues pending for 7 to 10 months. We issued multiple reminders but there was no response. That’s why the power supply was disconnected ” .

The Power Development Department has urged all consumers with outstanding bills to settle them as soon as possible to avoid further disconnections.(KNS)
