Srinagar, Nov 28(KNS): PDP Constituency Incharge, Dooru Shahabad-Sagam, Mohammad Ashraf Malik condemned the breach of privilege notice served to Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, a prominent legislator and the voice of countless people in Jammu and Kashmir.
"This notice, issued in response to his speech during the motion of thanks on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, is nothing but an attempt to silence legitimate criticism and suppress democratic expression," he said.
:Parra’s speech was a courageous and rightful articulation of the aspirations, grievances, and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Targeting him for fulfilling his duty as a representative of the people is a grave injustice and reflects the growing intolerance toward dissenting voices in today’s political climate," he added.
"Such actions undermine the very essence of democracy, where freedom of speech and expression are sacrosanct.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelInstead of addressing the valid issues raised during his speech, efforts are being made to intimidate and harass those who speak truth to power. This is deeply concerning and unacceptable," he said.
"I stand in unwavering solidarity with Parra. Attempts to stifle his voice are attempts to stifle the voice of the people he represents. This will not deter us from continuing to advocate for the rights, dignity, and aspirations of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
"I urge the Speaker of the Assembly to ensure that elected representatives are allowed to discharge their duties without fear of retaliation or coercion. Democracy thrives on dialogue, debate, and dissent, and any attempt to curtail these will only weaken the foundations of our political system. These high-handed tactics will not silence us. Together, we will continue to uphold democratic principles and fight for justice, truth, and the rights of the people," he added.(KNS).
