Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNS) : Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi has said that the proposed 20% electricity surcharge during peak hours has come as a “fresh worry for people who are already struggling to survive the winter months.”
In a Statement issued, Inam Un Nabi said Kashmiris had hoped for relief after the elections especially after the National Conference repeatedly promised 200 units of free electricity. “Instead of comfort, people have woken up to the news of another burden,” he said.
Inam Un Nabi said families in Kashmir are living through some of the hardest economic times in recent memory. “Many households live in a single room, sharing one heater, trying to make ends meet.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIncome has gone down, jobs have become uncertain and basic living has become difficult. In these conditions even a small rise in the power bill pushes families to the brink,” he said.
Inam Un Nabi said the government must remember that governance is not about figures or files but about people who shiver through cold nights, manage their kitchens with difficulty and live with anxiety about every new bill.
Inam urged the NC-led government to withdraw the proposed surcharge, honour its commitment of 200 free units and place people’s comfort and dignity at the centre of decision-making. “Kashmiris don’t need fresh worries. They need warmth, relief and empathy from those in power,” he said.(KNS)
