Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi attend Omar Abdullah's oath-taking ceremony in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 16(KNS): Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are attending Omar Abdullah's oath-taking ceremony as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar.

"Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka have arrived in Srinagar and are on their way to SKICC," said a senior Congress leader.

Abdullah will be sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, marking his second term in this role.

Before the ceremony, Abdullah offered floral tributes at the Mazar-e-Anwar of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, his grandfather, and the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

After his prayers, Abdullah emphasized his government’s responsibilities, stating, “We have to give people hope that this is their government and they will be heard.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey were not being heard for the last 5-6 years.”

He acknowledged that he was the last Chief Minister to complete a full six-year term and expressed hope for the temporary status of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory.

Abdullah indicated a desire to work with the government of India to resolve local issues, starting with the restoration of statehood.

In his first term, Abdullah served as Chief Minister of the erstwhile state from January 5, 2009, to January 8, 2015. The National Conference-Congress Alliance won the assembly elections held after the abrogation of Article 370.(KNS).
