Srinagar, June 18 (KNS): Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, along with Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, IT, and Transport, Satish Sharma, visited Imam Bara Zadibal and Imam Bara Hassanabad today to assess preparations for the upcoming holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The ministers interacted with community leaders, local representatives, and members of the Shia community to review on-ground arrangements. They were accompanied by MLA Zadibal Tanvir Ali Sadiq, MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, and senior officials from departments like Health, PHE, PWD, KPDCL, and Irrigation.
Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized that Muharram is of deep spiritual and cultural importance, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure safety, dignity, and comfort for all mourners. She directed the Health Department to deploy adequate staff, ambulances, and blood storage units along procession routes. The Minister called for uninterrupted power and water supply, effective sanitation, and smooth traffic management during the mourning days. The SMC Commissioner was asked to carry out immediate cleanliness and drain desilting in key areas like Zadibal, Alamgari Bazar, Madain Sahib, and Hawal.
Minister Satish Sharma assured the availability of essential supplies during the holy month. He also interacted with locals and reiterated the government's commitment to meeting community needs.
The Ministers later visited Mir Shams-ud-din Araqi (RA) shrine and toured Mir Behri Dal and surrounding densely populated Shia localities. During public interactions, Minister Sakeena pledged swift redressal of genuine issues and promised to deploy sufficient teaching staff in local schools. Minister Sharma announced the provision of solar lighting in several areas and assured regular ration supply during Muharram.
Both Ministers stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure peaceful and well-organized Muharram processions and gatherings. (KNS)
