Schools Advised to Avoid Visits to Gulmarg on Weekends Amid Tourist Rush: GDA Issues Safety Advisory

Srinagar, April 12 (KNS): Amid the ongoing tourist season, the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has issued an advisory to all government and private schools in the Kashmir Division, urging them to avoid organizing educational tours, picnics, or excursions to Gulmarg on Saturdays and Sundays due to heavy tourist influx and related safety concerns.

The advisory, issued by Tariq Hussain (KAS), Chief Executive Officer, GDA, notes that Gulmarg has been witnessing unprecedented crowds during weekends, resulting in severe traffic congestion, overcrowding, and safety challenges.

"In the interest of student safety, schools are hereby advised to refrain from conducting trips to Gulmarg on weekends until further notice," the advisory reads.

Furthermore, the GDA has made it mandatory for all schools to seek prior permission at least five working days in advance from the Head of the Institution or Department.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe request must then be submitted via email to gulmarggda@gmail.com, clearly mentioning the date of visit, number of students, details of in-charge staff, transporters, and emergency contact numbers for coordination with local administration and law enforcement agencies.

The advisory also emphasizes the personal responsibility of school managements for vehicle parking and maintaining sanitation before and after the visit. Additionally, the use of plastic and disposable items during such visits has been strictly prohibited.

GDA has warned that any violation of the advisory will be taken seriously, and strict action will be initiated against the defaulters.

The directive comes in light of recent weekends where heavy tourist activity has led to operational challenges in Gulmarg, prompting authorities to prioritize safety and environmental responsibility. (KNS)
