Sopore, April 05 (KNS): Shabir Ahmad Dar has been elected as the new president of the Sopore Media Association in an election held on Saturday, marking a collective move toward strengthening the local media landscape.
A total of 31 votes were cast, with Shabir securing victory by a margin of Nine votes over fellow journalist Lone Mehraj.
Expressing his gratitude after the win, Shabir highlighted the importance of unity, growth, and responsible journalism. He pledged to work in collaboration with all members for the welfare of the media community and the people of Sopore.

The association, a key platform for media professionals in north Kashmir, welcomed the new leadership and called for continued solidarity among its members.
In his concluding remarks, Shabir Ahmad Dar thanked the members for their trust and assured them of his commitment to press freedom, capacity building, and addressing the challenges faced by journalists in the apple town.
“This is not just my win—it is a win for every working journalist in Sopore who believes in unity and progress,” he said. (KNS)
