Srinagar, Nov 19 (KNS): The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is fully prepared to tackle any weather-related challenges ahead of the upcoming winter season, Commissioner Owais Ahmad said on Tuesday.
Speaking exclusively to Kashmir News Service, Dr. Owais highlighted the corporation's comprehensive plans for winter preparedness, ensuring residents a smooth and safe experience during harsh weather conditions.
He revealed that a successful trial run of snow clearance machines has been conducted, and essential equipment and protective gear have already been issued to field staff. For areas requiring manual snow cleaning, teams have been strategically deployed to provide immediate assistance when needed.
Dr. Owais highlighted SMC’s pivotal role during winters, especially in managing dewatering operations. He shared that around 100 mobile vehicles have been designated for efficient water removal across Srinagar, mitigating waterlogging concerns during snowfall and heavy rains.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The Commissioner further highlighted recent developmental achievements by the SMC. He informed that the macadamization of 60 kilometers of roads and the repair of potholes covering 100 kilometers have been successfully completed in Srinagar. These efforts are part of the corporation's broader commitment to maintaining Srinagar’s 1,500 kilometers of road connectivity.
Under the Smart City project, significant progress has been made, with most initiatives already completed and only a few nearing completion. Dr. Owais assured residents that the SMC is fully equipped to handle any weather exigencies, reiterating their commitment to ensuring the safety and convenience of the people.
With these proactive measures, the SMC aims to provide a seamless winter experience and continue contributing to Srinagar’s development and resilience, he added.(KNS)
