Srinagar, Sep 5 (KNS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb on Saturday launched an education initiative aimed at supporting the academic aspirations of children of the civic body's sanitation workers, with a focus on scholarship-based coaching and preparation for competitive examinations.

The initiative was inaugurated in the presence of SMC Joint Commissioners, sanitation workers and their children and parents, besides representatives of participating educational institutions.

Under the programme, eligible students from Classes IX to XII will be provided academic support, while students aspiring to appear for competitive examinations such as NEET and JEE will also be covered, according to the prescribed eligibility and selection criteria.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Haseeb said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that the children of those who work to keep the city clean get greater opportunities to pursue their educational goals.

"Those who work every day to keep our city clean deserve to see their children move forward with dignity, confidence and opportunity. Education can be one of the strongest pathways to make that possible. This initiative is an investment in the aspirations of the next generation," he said.

The Commissioner said the programme should not be viewed merely as an assistance initiative but as an effort to create a sustained ecosystem of educational opportunity, mentorship and academic advancement.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The initiative has been structured as a collaborative effort, with participating educational institutions providing academic support to eligible students. The Private Coaching Centres Association of Srinagar has facilitated the participation of its member institutions.

The SMC will identify and verify eligible students through a transparent mechanism before extending the benefits under the programme.

Haseeb said the broader objective was to ensure that the contribution of the Corporation's sanitation workforce translates into greater educational opportunities for the next generation.

The presence of sanitation workers and their children at the inaugural programme added a human dimension to the initiative, with their educational aspirations at the centre of the Corporation's intervention.

The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to the participating educational institutions and called for sustained collaboration to gradually expand the reach of the initiative.

The programme is envisaged as an evolving platform through which the SMC will continue to strengthen educational opportunities for eligible children of its sanitation workforce.(KNS)
