Srinagar, Sep 24 (KNS): Sopore Police have arrested a driver and seized the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident in Chak Rody Khan area of Sopore within 24 hours of the incident, officials said on Thursday.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle bearing registration number JK09E-3415, carrying two persons, was hit by an unidentified vehicle, following which the driver allegedly fled from the spot along with the vehicle.

Both injured persons were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for treatment.

In this connection, FIR No. 240/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered, and an investigation was initiated.

Police launched efforts to identify the vehicle involved and its driver. CCTV footage from the accident site and adjoining routes was examined, besides utilising technical assistance and other investigative leads.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Through sustained investigative efforts, police traced and seized the vehicle involved in the accident and arrested the accused driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar, a resident of Gund Jageer, Bandipora.

Meanwhile, one of the injured persons, Haziq Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, a resident of Kehnoosa, Bandipora, later succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. The other injured person is undergoing treatment.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway and appropriate legal provisions are being incorporated in view of the subsequent death of the injured person.

Sopore Police reiterated their commitment to prompt investigation and swift action in road accident and hit-and-run cases, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with law.(KNS)
