Three cricketers killed, Afghanistan cancels Pakistan tri-nation series

Srinagar, Oct 18 (KNS): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced its withdrawal from the upcoming Tri-Nation T20I Series involving Pakistan, following a deadly attack in Paktika province that claimed the lives of several Afghan cricketers.

In a statement issued, the ACB expressed “deep sorrow and grief” over what it described as a “cowardly attack carried out by the Pakistani regime,” which targeted local players in Urgun District, Paktika.

According to the statement, three cricketers — Kabeer, Sibghatullah, and Haroon — were killed along with five other civilians, while seven others sustained injuries. The players had returned to Urgun after participating in a friendly cricket match in Sharana, the provincial capital, when the attack took place.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Calling it a “great loss” to Afghanistan’s sports community, the ACB conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Paktika.

“As a gesture of respect to the victims, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to withdraw from participating in the upcoming Tri-Nation T20I Series involving Pakistan, scheduled to be played in late November,” the statement said.

The ACB prayed for the souls of the deceased, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and strength for their families during this time of mourning.(KNS).
