Srinagar, Sept 16 (KNS): Two earthquakes struck Nepal’s north-western Mugu district within nearly three hours early Wednesday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.

The first earthquake, measuring 4.5 magnitude, occurred at 1:51 am, followed by a 4.2-magnitude tremor at 4:28 am. Both quakes were recorded with their epicentres around Kalai in Mugu district.

India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) also recorded the tremors, though it measured the second earthquake at 4.0 magnitude.

According to the NCS, the first quake occurred at 1:36 am IST at a depth of 81 kilometres, around 159 kilometres east of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. The second was recorded at 4:13 am IST at a depth of 98 kilometres, approximately 166 kilometres east of Pithoragarh.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The latest tremors come days after two earthquakes struck Nepal’s Mustang district. A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit the area on September 8, followed by a 4.0-magnitude tremor on September 9.

Nepal is also continuing recovery and relief operations following the August 26 Bhote Koshi flash floods, which affected the Rasuwa-Trishuli river system and several downstream districts.

According to the latest Nepal Police update cited in the report, 1,403 bodies have been recovered, while 4,089 people remain officially listed as missing. Search, identification and relief operations are continuing in the affected areas. (KNS)
