Venezuela Accuses US of Attacking Civilian, Military Sites; Explosions Rock Caracas

Caracas, Jan 3 (KNS): Venezuela has accused the United States of carrying out attacks on civilian and military installations across several states after a series of explosions were reported in the capital, Caracas, early Saturday.

According to Venezuelan authorities, at least seven explosions were heard around 2 a.m., accompanied by low-flying aircraft. Smoke was seen rising from a military base hangar, while another military facility in Caracas reportedly lost power following the blasts.

Residents in different parts of the city rushed into the streets after feeling strong tremors. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as explosions shook the ground.

In a statement, the Venezuelan government called the incident an “imperialist attack” and urged supporters to mobilise nationwide.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelPresident Nicolás Maduro ordered the activation of national defence plans and declared a “state of external disturbance.”

The US Pentagon referred questions to the White House, which had not issued an immediate response. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Authority banned US commercial flights from Venezuelan airspace due to ongoing military activity.

The developments come amid heightened tensions between the two countries. In recent months, the US military has targeted suspected drug-smuggling boats near Venezuelan waters, while Washington continues to impose pressure on Caracas through sanctions and military deployments.

Venezuela has repeatedly accused the US of attempting to destabilise the country and force political change, claims denied by Washington.(KNS)
