Srinagar, Jan 24 (KNS): Weather conditions in Kashmir are expected to improve from Saturday after a spell of heavy snowfall ended a prolonged dry period but disrupted normal life across the Valley, officials said.

Independent weather observer Faizan Arif said the Western Disturbance affecting the region has moved out of Jammu and Kashmir and weather is likely to remain largely dry over the next 48 hours.

However, a few more inches of snowfall were recorded overnight in parts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora and Kishtwar districts, he said.

Arif said Rajouri town also received snowfall, a rare occurrence, and added that snow was reported from areas that had not witnessed snowfall for nearly a decade.

He said another Western Disturbance is likely to approach the region from Monday afternoon, bringing light to moderate rain and snow in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The recent spell of intense windstorms and heavy snowfall disrupted power supply, road connectivity and air traffic across the Valley over the past two days, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department issued a high-danger avalanche warning for six districts following fresh snowfall.

Avalanches with a high-danger level are likely above 2,300 metres in Ganderbal district over the next 24 hours, officials said.

They said avalanches with a high-danger level are also likely above 2,500 metres in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Kupwara districts, advising people to avoid avalanche-prone areas.(KNS).
