Basic Life Support and Disaster Management Training Held at Wadura Campus Under 'Irtiqa Deeksharambh 2025'

Wadura, Apr 30 (KNS) On the sixth day of the ongoing 'Irtiqa Deeksharambh 2025' induction program, the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura Campus, SKUAST-Kashmir, hosted a significant session on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Disaster Management in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS).


Held under the guidance of Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, and Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhat, Students Welfare Officer and Organising Secretary, the training aimed to equip students with essential life-saving skills and disaster preparedness techniques.

Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhat opened the session with a welcome address, emphasizing the importance of such training for students’ overall development. Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir highlighted the value of practical life skills like BLS, particularly for students working in rural and disaster-prone areas.

Prof. (Dr.) Syed Naseem Geelani, Head, Division of Social and Basic Sciences, Faculty of Forestry, delivered the keynote address and underlined the importance of awareness and quick response during disasters.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Shri G.A. Qureshi, Treasurer of IRCS, gave an insightful overview of the Red Cross Movement and its humanitarian legacy.

A live demonstration of CPR and other BLS procedures was conducted by Dr. Asia Noor, Medical Officer, assisted by volunteer Miss Juwaira. Students actively participated in hands-on training using a dummy, learning crucial emergency response techniques.

The session concluded with felicitation of the guests by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhat, and Prof. Javaid A. Bhat, Head, Department of Soil Sciences. The training was well-received and reinforced the importance of readiness and first aid knowledge among students.
