Dr Raja Muzaffar urges students to protect Doodh Ganga

Budgam Sept 18 (KNS): Under the nationwide Sewa Parv 2025 celebrations a lecture was held on Climate Change with special focus on Doodh Ganga conservation at Govt Higher Secondary School Zoohama Budgam. Social activist and columnist Dr Raja Muzaffar addressed the students urging them to work for environmental conservation especially protection and conservation of Doodh Ganga which happens to be the lifeline of around 10 lakh people in Chadoora and Srinagar uptown. Raja Muzaffar told students that glaciers were melting at faster speed and in future Kashmir would face a severe water crisis. He said that Doodh Ganga is being polluted by people by dumping waste into it and illegal riverbed mining has already caused havoc in Doodh Ganga.

“ The illegal riverbed mining has impacted the small irrigation canals which were further damaged in recent floods as the same had been weakened by illegal mining near the embankments in the last 5 years. In future the agricultural land , paddy , vegetable and apple cultivation will get impacted if we don’t wake up now.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe waste dumping is polluting it and the same water is supplied to people for drinking and irrigation purposes. He thanked the Principal & teachers of the school for organising the lecture on climate change with special focus on water conservation & Doodh Ganga conservation which flows through the area. Principal Hr Secondary School Zoohama Abdul Gani also addressed the students and urged them to ensure protection and conservation of water bodies. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, a noted RTI and climate activist also spoke on the occasion and urged students to take benefits of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin to make the rural waste management programme a grand success. He appealed to teachers to make the Seva Parv campaign a grand success by creating awareness on different centrally sponsored schemes & environmental conservation.(KNS)
