J&K Government Reveals 32,474 Vacant Posts Across Departments


Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government has disclosed that 32,474 vacancies exist across various departments as of January 31, 2025. The information was shared in response to Starred A.Q. No. 825 raised by Member Satish Kumar Sharma.  

The General Administration Department reported 2,593 Gazetted, 19,214 Non-Gazetted, and 10,757 Multi-Tasking Staff vacancies. Key sectors facing shortages include Health and Medical Education with 1,584 Gazetted, 4,603 Non-Gazetted, and 1,664 Multi-Tasking Staff vacancies. The Power Development Department has 45 Gazetted and 1,260 Non-Gazetted vacancies, while Public Works (R&H) has 1,099 Non-Gazetted and 2,660 Multi-Tasking Staff vacancies.  

The government has initiated recruitment efforts, referring 13,466 Non-Gazetted vacancies to JKSSB, with 9,351 selections completed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAdditionally, 2,390 Gazetted vacancies were referred to JKPSC, leading to 2,175 appointments. The recruitment of 10,757 Multi-Tasking Staff positions is under Finance Department review.  

Sector-specific recruitment includes 56 Gazetted and 660 Non-Gazetted posts in Health, 840 Assistant Professors in Higher Education, and 597 Lecturer posts in School Education. The government has also abolished interviews for Pay Level 6 and below and introduced Computer-Based Tests to enhance transparency.  

The administration has set a target to fill 1,300 Gazetted and 5,751 Non-Gazetted vacancies by year-end, prioritizing crucial sectors such as Engineering and Education. However, legal challenges persist regarding regularization policies following the Supreme Court’s Uma Devi judgment.(KNS)
