Bandipora February 10 (KNS): Jammu Kashmir Apni Party Vice President Usman Majid on Friday urged the government to stop the “ongoing forced evictions and demolition drive” and regularise it which is under the occupation of the people for years and decades in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued to KNS, he was addressing a sit in protest in Bandipora.
Majid said, “Uprooting people through a forced eviction and demolition drive is an inhuman act which will bring more miseries to the people who have already suffered hugely over the years. Majid said that Apni Party will not leave any stone unturned to ensure the government revokes its policies that are causing trouble to the people.
He said, We will stand like a rock with the people in these tough times, and we will do everything to ensure poor people are not harmed.” “It is very painful to see poor people suffering due to the ongoing demolition drive. Taking a dig at the administration, he said, “Government officials must stop harassing innocent people in the name of demolition drive. They must understand that uprooting people is an inhuman act.” He urged the Lieutenant Governor to take action against the officials who are harassing the common people in the name of retrieving state land in their occupancy.
Speaking on the occasion senior party leader Imtiyaz Parry said that them manner in which the anti-encroachment drive has been undertaken violates the norms of welfare and democratic state. Needless to say that in a welfare state the government is obligated to provide homes to the homeless. In this land, thousands are under the threat of losing their homes. There is no logic in rendering the people homeless by bulldozing their houses.
On the iccasion District President Syed Shafat Kazmi said the eviction and demolition drive was causing deep anguish and distress among people. "It is seriously impacting the life and livelihood of people. He urged the authorities to immediately stop it and spare the people.(KNS)
