Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has clarified that the Centre has not launched any special financial scheme or dedicated grant for the promotion and development of offbeat tourist destinations in the Union Territory.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan, the department informed that it has not received any official communication from the Government of India about a policy or funding mechanism that specifically targets offbeat tourism locations.
However, officials highlighted that Gurez Valley, known for its untouched natural charm and sustainable tourism practices, was awarded the “Best Offbeat Destination in India (Gold)” title in 2022.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe department said Gurez continues to receive focused attention under ongoing state initiatives.
A comprehensive project aimed at upgrading facilities and improving tourism infrastructure in Gurez has already been initiated under the Capex Budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The Tourism Directorate, Kashmir, is overseeing the execution of this project in coordination with the Bandipora district administration, officials added.
According to the department, the ongoing efforts are part of a broader strategy to promote lesser-explored areas within Jammu and Kashmir through internal resources rather than relying on any special central scheme.(KNS)
