Srinagar, Apr 07 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar on Friday said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq could neither offer congregational prayers not could fulfil his official duty due to his continuous house detention.
In a statement to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Anjuman said termed the continuous detention of Mirwaiz illegal and said people who had come to Jama Masjid agains returned disappointed.
Meanwhile, before the Friday prayer, Imam Hai Ahmad Saeed Naqshbandi said that people are unable to understand the behavior of the authorities regarding this incarceration.
He said that Umar Farooq is not a leading religious leader and the attempt to keep him away from his people for the last nearly four years is a matter of serious concern.
Meanwhile, Anjuman Auqaf announced that the Friday prayer on April 14 will be offered at 2:00 pm at Jama Masjid Srinagar.
It said the people should ensure their attendance at the Jama Masjid by showing solidarity and discipline.
Auqaf also has expressed resentment that the worshipers who came to perform Friday complained that policemen took their mobile phones and identity cards and then allowed them to enter the Masjid.
It urged the police officials to abandon such behavior towards worshipers and not subject people to unnecessary inconvenience. (KNS)
