Bhubaneswar, Nov 29 (KNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police 2024 in Bhubaneswar, emphasizing the importance of strengthening internal security and ensuring public safety. The three-day event, running from November 29 to December 1, will delve into critical aspects of national security, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, coastal security, narcotics control, and the implementation of new criminal laws.
The conference provides a platform for senior police officials and security administrators from across India to engage in discussions and share insights on tackling crime, managing law and order, and addressing internal security threats. The event also includes presentations of best practices and deliberations on welfare and infrastructure challenges faced by law enforcement.
In a post on X, PM Modi highlighted the conference’s significance, stating, “Over the next two days, I will be in Bhubaneswar for the DGP/IGP conference. Senior police officers from across India will participate to discuss ways to strengthen our internal security and public safety.” He further emphasized that this platform facilitates open discussions and fosters innovative solutions.
This year’s conference features unique activities, including Yoga sessions, thematic dining tables, and breakout discussions. Since 2014, PM Modi has encouraged the conference to be hosted in various cities to ensure wider participation and representation. Previous venues include Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kevadiya, Pune, and Lucknow.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and other senior officials, including state DGPs and chiefs of central police organisations, are attending the conference.
Elaborate security measures have been implemented for the event, with Bhubaneswar under a stringent security blanket. Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh stated that over 70 platoons of police, supported by Odisha Police and Central Armed Police Forces, have been deployed to monitor and neutralize any potential threats.
Additionally, PM Modi will address a BJP-organized programme in Bhubaneswar. He lauded the BJP government in Odisha for prioritizing growth and improving the lives of marginalized communities.
The conference also features the presentation of the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service, celebrating excellence in law enforcement. (KNS)
