Postpone U-14 cricket tournament to ensure level playing field: Zuhaib Mir

Srinagar, Oct 8 (KNS): PDP leader Zuhaib Yousuf Mir has urged the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to reschedule the Under-14 Inter-District Cricket Tournament scheduled to be held in Kishtwar, saying its timing coincides with final examinations of students in the Kashmir Division.

In a post on X, Mir said holding the tournament during the examination period could place young cricketers from Kashmir at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts in the Jammu Division.

“The Under-14 inter-District Cricket Tournament announced by JKCA in Kishtwar in October coincides with the final examinations of students in the Kashmir Division,” Mir said.

He said the examination schedule created a difficult situation for school-going players from Kashmir, while pointing out that the examination session in the Jammu Division is held in March.

“This places young cricketers from Kashmir at a significant disadvantage compared to their counterparts in the Jammu Division as Jammu Division’s exam session is in March,” he said.

Mir also referred to what he described as an existing disparity in the representation of players from Kashmir in JKCA competitions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“Considering the existing disparity in the representation of players from Kashmir in JKCA competitions, scheduling the tournament during examinations may further restrict opportunities for talented young players from the region,” he said.

He appealed to the JKCA and Sarmad Hafeez to consider postponing the tournament to November or February.

“We respectfully request JKCA and Sarmad Hafeez sahib to consider postponing the tournament to November or February, ensuring fairness, equal opportunity, and a level playing field for all aspiring cricketers,” Mir said.

The appeal comes amid concerns from parents of Under-14 cricketers in Kashmir over the timing of age-group cricket fixtures. A report published on October 8 said parents had also sought postponement of upcoming Under-14 matches, citing a clash with final-term examinations.
