Srinagar, Jan 13(KNS): Severe cold conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday as minimum temperatures dipped well below freezing at most places in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region, while parts of Jammu recorded near-zero temperatures, officials said.
In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund settled at minus 5.0 degrees. Pahalgam recorded minus 6.2 degrees Celsius and Kupwara minus 5.8 degrees.
Pulwama emerged as one of the coldest places in the Valley at minus 6.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Sopore at minus 6.5 degrees and Shopian at minus 6.3 degrees.
Anantnag recorded a low of minus 6.1 degrees, while Pampore and Srinagar Airport settled at minus 4.5 degrees and minus 5.8 degrees, respectively. Sonamarg recorded a low of minus 7.0 degrees Celsius, while Beerwah in Budgam registered minus 5.5 degrees.
In the Jammu region, temperatures were relatively higher but several places witnessed chilly conditions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelJammu city recorded a minimum of 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Jammu Airport settled at 5.6 degrees. Rajouri recorded a low of 0.0 degrees, Udhampur 0.8 degrees, and Bhaderwah minus 0.2 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded a comparatively higher minimum of 8.9 degrees Celsius.
Ladakh continued to reel under extreme cold, with Leh recording a minimum temperature of minus 11.6 degrees Celsius. Kargil registered minus 10.2 degrees, Nubra Valley minus 10.8 degrees, and Hanle minus 9.7 degrees Celsius.
Meteorological officials said cold wave conditions are likely to persist in higher reaches, while nights will continue to remain cold across the region over the next few days.
Residents have been advised to take precautions as freezing temperatures continue to disrupt normal life in several areas.(KNS)
