Government Dental College Srinagar to Organize World Oral Health Day Celebrations

Srinagar March 20 (KNS): The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College Srinagar, organized a Mega Oral Health awareness and treatment campaign in view of the world oral health day which is observed every year on 20th of March. The campaign was flagged off by Processor (Dr) Ajaz Shah, Principal Dean Government Dental College and Hospital from campus of the college. This year, 2025, the World Oral Health Day theme is “A HAPPY MOUTH IS A HAPPY BODY”. This theme emphasizes the link between mental health and dental health. Gum disease, cavities, and tooth loss can result from poor oral hygiene, which can also have an impact on social relationships, self-esteem, and general mental health. This years theme aims to inspire lasting and positive change by educating people on the crucial role a healthy mouth plays in our lives.

In view of this day Department of public health dentistry Government Dental College organized oral health awareness camps at multiple places across the valley. This awareness campaign has been organized in collaboration with the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar, and Department of Social and Preventive Medicine , Government Medical College Baramulla.this awareness campaign has been organised an oral health treatment camp to mark World Oral Health Day across various districts of Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and its impact on overall well-being.

As part of this program, oral health awareness camps, free dental check-ups, and community outreach programs were conducted at multiple satellite centers, including which included CHC Tangmarg, PHC Sallar, HWC Fakir Gujri under Department of social.and preventive medicine, GMC Srinagar and UTHC Bage-e-Islam, Baramulla under Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, GMC Baramulla.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe program was attended by HOD SPM GMC Srinagar, Professor (Dr.) M Saleem Khan and. HOD SPM Baramulla, Dr Zahid Khan. The camps at different locations were organised by Dr Aasim Farooq Shah, Dr Asif Yousuf, Dr Asifa Ashraf and Dr Mohammad Hanief .

The program featured oral health screenings, interactive awareness sessions, and distribution of free medicine to promote good dental practices among the community. Special focus was given to educating children, elderly individuals, and underserved populations about preventive dental care. Oral health awareness rally was carried out in Dhara and FaqeerGujri area which was attended by school children of the concerned areas.Speaking about the event, officials from the organizing departments emphasized the need for early detection and prevention of oral diseases, highlighting how poor oral health can contribute to systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and mental illness.

HOD department of Public Health Dentistry Dr Aasim Farooq Shah said that this day is meant to promote the importance of oral health by, Encouraging people to follow a good oral hygiene routine .Share information about the importance of oral health. Promote Oral Health particularly in School by Organizing talks, demonstrations, or competitions to teach children about the importance of brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits.and Support Oral Health Initiatives:. The World Oral Health Day campaign aligned with global efforts to reduce the burden of oral diseases and ensure access to quality dental care for all. The event was expected to witness participation from healthcare professionals, students, and local communities, making it a significant step towards better oral health in the region.(KNS)
